"Hearts at the Foot of the Cross"--two of Jesus' followers who were present when Jesus was crucified were John (one of the Twelve) and Jesus' mother Mary. Jesus directed John and Mary to take care of one another. (see John 19:26-27) We are followers of Jesus, loving Him for His sacrificial love, and caring for each other in gratitude for His saving love.

St. John is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.

We accept the Bible as the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and we subscribe to the Lutheran Confessions as recorded in the Book of Concord (1580) as a true exposition of the things taught in the Bible

Worship: Sunday, 8:30am

The Lutheran idea about worship is a little different from many common Protestant conceptions. We don't think of "the worship service" as something we do for God, because we owe it to Him. Don't mistake. We do owe Him our worship and praise. But before we can get there, we need Him to call us and speak to us. He initiates the conversation. He speaks first in His Word, the Bible. We gather to hear Him speak, and as we do, we bring nothing but our neediness and poverty. In the Divine Service, we gather so God can serve us: forgiveness, peace, joy, a new start; and of course, moved by His gifts, we say "Thank You" with our praises.

Our worship style is somewhat formal, reminding us that we have gathered at the invitation of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. God is more interested in your heart than in your clothes; still, people sometimes wonder how to dress for worship when they visit a new church. For worship at St. John, wear what you feel nicely dressed in, for we all want to give God our best.

Faith That Works

We are saved by God's grace received through faith, not by our works or good deeds... but our saving faith does indeed work! These quilts were created by our quilting group, and sent out to bring warmth to far off lands; this group also turns pillowcases into dresses, which go to Haiti where they are worn by schoolgirls. Check out this very cool video of 700 pillowcase dresses recently being delivered to Orphan Grain Train's Sebewaing MI office.

The second Saturday of every month some of our hard workers put on a Country Breakfast which offers great food at an amazingly low price!

NOTICE: The Country Breakfasts are coming back! 8am-10am starting Saturday, August 14th, 2021.
